Your body is made of 80% water. You can get really sick of dehydration if you do not have water in your body, if you are, say, back packing. While water may not be exciting, it is important to drink as much water as you can. The recommended amount is 8 glasses of water, minimum, daily. If you’re still not convinced, did we mention that drinking water also helps with other issues like having good skin? Yeah we thought you’d like that!
Myth 8: Your machine will tell you how many calories you’ve burned.
Truth: Unfortunately, a lot of machines do not ask you enough information for them to give you an accurate estimation of how much you are burning. However, there is always a but. Machines are becoming more accurate every day, so in the mean time, you can go online and figure out what your heart rate needs to be so that you can track your own progress. Going online to check out your BMI also wouldn’t hurt on your road to be working fit, either.
Myth 9: I can’t work out, I’m at a desk all day.
Truth: As stated in Myths 1 and 2, it’s not where you work or when, but how well you do your work out. You can work out just as easily at your desk as you can on the floor of a gym. It is unrealistic to ask you to run or do jumping jacks if you are in a cubicle. It’s distracting if you’re not in an office where you can close your door. However, you can do stretches and twists, right there in your seat. Bring along some 3 pound weights and work on your arms while you’re on hold. Resistance bands can work wonders while you have five minutes or so.
Myth 10: I stopped so there is no point to start all over.
Truth: Working out is not a cart that is being pulled by a team of wild horses. You can always jump back on the cart if you fall off. No one is perfect and we all have weak moments. Just take a deep breath, re-orient yourself and keep moving. It is never too late to get in shape!
